Prices for accommodation in Brazil are moderate: about the same as in inexpensive European countries. We used Booking, but Airbnb also has plenty to offer.

In Rio we lived in the bohemian central district of Santa Teresa, where there are few tourists but many locals. In the evening we could sit in bars with live music and enjoy the atmosphere of Brazilian daily festivities. We rented an apartment on bookings - Sugar Loft Apartments ($ 58 per night for four people). A bonus was the terrace and a gorgeous view of Sugar Loaf Mountain.

In Iguazu Falls we stayed at the big old (in a good way) Hotel Colonial Iguacu ($35 a night for a double room with a great breakfast) 15 minutes on foot from the o que é ux design ebac to Iguazu Falls National Park and 7 minutes from the airport. Shuttle service to and from the airport is free.

We spent one night in Manaus at Hostel Manaus ($44 for a family room for four with breakfast and private bathroom). There you could have a cozy breakfast on the rooftop terrace overlooking the main city of Amazonas or in the cozy patio, where all the walls were hand-painted with pictures of Amazonian animals and birds (very cool!).

Our last home in Brazil was the resort of Arrayal do Cabo (180 km from Rio), where we rented a three-story townhouse ($50 a night).

The main conclusion: this trip is yet another proof that traveling in a large group is not only more fun, but also more profitable.
