Uber is very well developed in Brazil: it's cheap and there are a lot of cars. For four of us it was cheaper to get around than by public transport. And the service is popular not only in Rio, but also in other big and not so big cities we visited. An Uber from Rio airport costs 40-50 Brazilian reals ($ 10-12). Trips within cities cost us less than $5 per car.

There are 2 types of domestic transportation well developed in the country: intercity buses and airplanes. Trains are unpopular. If you buy plane tickets in advance, the cost is comparable to the bus (and certainly much faster in time). Since we planned to oque faz um cientista de dados ebac the country quite a bit, we opted for airplanes. Domestic flights cost $50-100 depending on the distance (our flights were 2-4 hours long). The largest airlines (fly not only in Brazil, but also in other countries in the region) are GOL and LATAM. The planes are new and comfortable and offer drinks, snacks and sandwiches.

Also, for 6 days we took a car from a local company Foco. It cost $200 with full insurance. The price of fuel depends on the gas station and can vary by 1.5 times, so it makes sense to compare. There are toll roads, you can only pay in cash. We weren't prepared for that, but they let us in by asking us to drive to the mall, go back and pay. The people are friendly, helpful and willing to help unprepared travelers. Traffic in Rio is very busy and the rules are ignored by many, so it is advisable to be an experienced and careful driver. Fortunately, we had one. It was convenient to look for a car on aggregators, but it was cheaper to book on the website of the rental company itself.
